Smash Alley @ The Green Rooms

The first band of the night at the Green Rooms was Smash Alley, and apart from catching the last few seconds of their set at the LAS festival earlier this year I had never seen them before.

Their set here was good, they play metal, but unlike a lot of modern metal bands they don’t need to resort to screaming and seem to know enough about music to know what melody is and why it is important in a tune.

They started of with a cover of Enter Sandman before storming through a fantastic bunch of originals songs with another cover thrown in along the way for good measure.

The show they put on was very tight, well put together and tremendously entertaining, and I was especially amazed by the skills of their guitarist who hammered out a series of flawlessly performed, awe inspiring solos. The band got a good reaction from the crowd, taking to and leaving the stage to a chant of “Smash, Smash, Smash Alley”, and I think most people would agree that that is a pretty good way to end any gig.
