Interview With Accident Music

accident-quote3After being very impressed by the show they put on a few months ago I decided to meet up with Accident Music during their gig at Clwb Ifor Bach a few nights ago to interview them.

VC: What is the origin of the name and does it have any particular meaning?
AM: I (Chris) was dicking about in work, on the internet. There were two tabs open in the browser, the first was about some bloke crashing a Jeep and the second was some music site. The two together read Accident Music, and because we had no other ideas we used it. So there is no deep hidden meaning, it’s just the result of dicking about.

VC: Who are your biggest influences?
AM: Manic Street Preachers, Deftones, Alice in Chains, Girls Aloud, Ginger Rogers and Junkie Junkie and the Platinum Ring Boys.

VC: What plans do you have for the future?
AM: We’ll be releasing a single at the beginning of next year, followed by an album, followed by world domination and if there’s time, some wanking.

VC: What’s more important, musical ability or a rock and roll attitude?
AM: You need equal parts of both. You can succeed with just one of the two, but to be great you need both.

VC: Who writes the songs?
AM: We write the songs together; we all bring what we’ve got to the practice room and see how it all fits. So we all bring something different and the music ends up how it is. It wouldn’t really work if just one person wrote all the songs.

VC: Which of your songs is your favourite?
AM: It used to be “Don’t Say Sorry If You Aren’t”, but now it’s “Let Them Crawl Like The Snakes They Are”. The title is a bit long but that’s our favourite at the moment, mostly because it’s a brand new song, so it represents what we as a band can create right now.

VC: It’s been a while since I last saw you, has the band evolved since then?
AM: We’ve got a full time drummer. A GOOD DRUMMER. We’ve improved loads, become more professional and genrally got our acts together. We’ve become a proper band, instead of just being four guys dicking about. We also realised that other people like us. And on top of all that, by far the most important thing is that our van is looking suave, it’s got a chandelier and a jacuzzi.

VC: What are you going to do after this interview?
AM: We are going to drive to Glasgow, via Portsmouth, maybe venturing back into Wales a bit on the way. We’ve got a gig there, that’s if we don’t die on the way.

VC: Anything you would like to add?
AM: If you live in Glasgow, come and see us. Buy a poppy. Lilac is a good colour for the bedroom because it’s very serene. Go and see bands that you want to see, don’t let magazines tell you who to listen to. Show your support for the live music scene.

And most importantly: Stix has the smallest hands of any man on this planet.

  1. I believed this until a comparison of hands with Scott (Exit International) who actually has smaller hands than me. Finally I can pass the torch! :)
