Jets To Zurich - An Everyday Motion

An Everyday MotionAn Everyday Motion is the first release by The Jets To Zurich, it is a three track EP with a title that seems to have some kind of deep hidden meaning about something, although I can’t tell you what that meaning is because I don’t know.  What I can tell you is that it is a poorly recorded collection of good songs. (Sorry guys but its true)

The three tracks which make up The Jets To Zurich’s first foray into the world of mp3’s, CD’s and sound systems are, in order: Overdriver, Losing Touch and Blue Sky.

The first song, Overdriver, is, as I think I mentioned in another review, an awesome song and because of its distorted nature it lends itself perfectly to being badly recorded because you can just turn it up really loud and suddenly all of the problems in regard to the recording quality go away.   It’s got a cool grungy rock feel to it and is a good representation of the bands current material.  The beat is good and the lyrics are catchy, so I wasn’t surprised to find that I had it stuck in my head the whole day after listening to it a couple of times, and I think that’s a good sign.

However, Losing Touch, the second song on the EP, is a bit a let down in the wake of the great energy created by Overdriver.  The line “Going out on a Friday night” is somewhat overused, and although I couldn’t be bothered to go through the song and count the number of times it is repeated I am guessing I would be something like the number of times Barack Obama has said the word “change” in the last year.  The musical side of things is pretty good with their cool grungy sound and catchy hooks and cool guitar riffs, although I think I could have done with being a bit faster, although I think I am being a bit pedantic there.

The last song on the EP, Blue Sky, is a bit of a departure from the other two songs.  It is an acoustic song which creates a very laid back and calm mood, and by consisting of just acoustic rhythm guitar and softly sung lyrics it winds the EP down nicely.

Taken as a whole I feel that An Everyday Motion is a pretty good EP, despite my reservations about Losing Touch which, now that I read back over what I have written, were a bit exaggerated.  The songs not that bad, I just think it could be better, but like I said taken as a whole it’s pretty good and I recommend it to anyone who gets the chance to buy it, because at 3 quid it’s a bargain.
